Scope:

Built in a small traditional 1980’s southwest Houston suburban development, this 4400 SF contemporary home makes a statement that brings the entire neighborhood to life. Designed on a 13,000 SF corner lot, only 7,000 SF was available as buildable area due to setbacks and easements on the property. In order to maximize space, a back yard was sacrificed for a scored concrete patio in the front of the house, screened by 6 ft. brick wall with 4” openings allowing those seated in the patio to see approaching guests.

The exterior material is a combination of a multi-colored brick evoking a stone façade and standard hardi-plank siding coated with a “Superdeck” stain that makes the siding look like natural wood. The north elevation is heavily glazed with insulating glass allowing sunlight to illuminate the house during the day reducing the need for indoor lighting. Built for a young family, the design of the home is planned for entertaining with all living spaces on the 2nd floor while the 1st floor consists of entertainment areas such as the kitchen with a 3 person bar, dining room, breakfast room, and a two story family room that opens completely into the patio and the indoor pool room utilizing “Nana Wall” wall systems that converts the three spaces into one large open entertainment area.

The interiors maintain the contemporary theme with a two-story brick double sided fireplace, stained concrete floors in the pool room and kitchen, and a stained pine ceiling in the family room. The pool room is designed to open to the outside as well with sliding doors on all sides. The all glass railings keep the house’s openness to a maximum.
