Port Arthur Independent School District
Dowling Elementary School
Completed: May 2005
Size: 45,400 sq ft
Scope:
Built in 1969, Dowling Elementary School was the first school in the Port Arthur School District designed utilizing the “Open Classroom” concept. Dowling has very few interior separation walls. The one-story 45,400 square foot building, while in better condition then most school building’s in the district, severely lacks electrical capacity to serve its student population. The school will also be completely updated to meet the requirements of the Americans for Disabilities Act. Additional upgrades will be made to bathrooms and the cafeteria, as well as complete replacement of the fire alarm system and the intercom system.
