Port Arthur Independent School District
Tyrell Elementary School
Completed: December 2002
Size: 87,000 sq ft
Scope:
Built in 1925, Tyrell Elementary School has the most existing deferred maintenance of any facility in the school district that is not scheduled to be replaced. The 87,000 square foot, two level building is considered a historic structure. Most of the $2 million budget will be spent upgrading the building’s life safety related components including a new fire alarm and a new sprinkler system. The entire building will be brought into compliance with the American for Disabilities Act. A completely new 4-pipe HVAC system will be added along with an upgraded electrical system.
Exterior walls will be repaired and resealed and the existing roof will be entirely replaced to prevent water intrusion.
