Scope:

St. Petersburg’s historic Jordan Park housing development, one of Florida’s largest affordable housing developments, was entirely rebuilt in 2002. Financed by a $27 million HOPE VI grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Jordan Park now includes a residential style mix of duplexes, homes and small apartments for very low-income residents.

As part of the last phase of construction at Jordan Park, Smith & Company designed the new Jordan Park Achievement center as a quasi-community outreach center for Jordan Park residents and families. This 10,000 square foot complex was designed with a French Quarter theme and has the ability to be expanded to two stories in the future. Located on 22nd street, one of the city’s main thoroughfares through the African American community, the building houses a child care center, a computer lab, a self-sufficiency training lab, conference rooms, and several areas leased by private organizations such as St. Petersburg College and Seaco. These organizations have teamed with the housing authority to provide training for residents.

The Achievement Center was built using the Design-Build delivery and was designed and constructed in less then 10 months.
