Smith & Company is currently working with HKS on the LBJ Hospital expansion, providing documentation of all the interior design aspects of the project. The new $1.6 billion hospital on the Lyndon B. Johnson campus in Northeast Harris County will enhance health care in one of the county’s most vulnerable communities. The new 12-story, Level I trauma-capable facility on the current campus of Harris Health LBJ Hospital will have 390 private patient rooms, with the potential to expand to 450. The project will feature a comprehensive range of facilities including an imaging department, emergency center, lab space, pharmacy, nuclear medicine department, specialized cardiology services, and a labor and delivery center.
The 12-story hospital will replace the aging LBJ Hospital. It’s expected to open in late 2028. Operated by Harris Health System, the facility will become the third adult Level I trauma hospital in Harris County. This project is funded by a $2.5 billion bond referendum approved by Harris County voters in November 2023.
